Land of apples

The rural region between Kreuzlingen and Romanshorn is truly the centre of the apple. And Thurgau's sun parlour! If you believe the local weather station, Güttingen is not only the Thurgau champion in terms of hours of sunshine, but every now and then even the Swiss champion. No wonder fruits thrive so well here. In Altnau alone there are around 300,000 apple trees. The village even has a "stalk": the longest jetty on Lake Constance at 270 metres. There is an apple trail here, an exciting theme trail all about the red-cheeked fruit. In spring, when the orchards turn white from the endless blossoms of the apple trees, the Bluescht Festival takes place here. In autumn, the apple week is celebrated.

The most pleasant bathing spots on Lake Constance

Family-friendly and down-to-earth - that's how the bathing places on Lake Constance between Romanshorn and Kreuzlingen in the sunny corner of the Thurgau region are. The Lido at Güttingen, for example, is perfect for a family outing on hot summer days. Pack a rucksack with swimwear and a barbecue. Everything else is on site. Two barbecue areas with wood, changing rooms, toilets and a large playground for all ages of children. By the way: the sandpit here has the best lake view! The Kesswil bathing area also has a small restaurant, while the Altnau bathing beach has the longest jetty on Lake Constance. The bathing areas are all free of charge.

Hiking with lake and mountain views

Between Kreuzlingen and Romanshorn, a moraine of the former Rhine glacier, today's Seerücken, rises directly behind Lake Constance. In addition to a mild climate for good fruit-growing, it also provides hikers in the region with a wonderful panoramic view. On one side of the elevation you can see the Säntis, on the other Lake Constance. During the blossom season, a white sea of blossoms pours over the fruit orchards of the region. Hiking secret tip: The Langrickenbach Panorama Trail! Pure country idyll.

Altnau Apple Trail

The apple trail near Altnau on Lake Constance is an exciting adventure tour with 24 information panels and various hands-on stations on the red-cheeked fruit. The apple trail can be experienced on foot, with a pram, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage.

Explore the Lake Constance region by ship

The Sunny Corner of the Thurgau from Uttwil to Landschlacht is well served by the Schweizerischen Bodensee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft. With Uttwil, Güttingen and Altnau, there are three landing stages in the sunny corner. The latter two enable lake-crossing excursions to the German shore to Hagnau or Immenstadt. In the summer season, however, scheduled boats also travel along the Swiss shore, stopping in Uttwil and Altnau. Hiking or cycling along the shore can therefore be combined perfectly with a boat trip, making excursions in the region varied and relaxing.

Feierlenhof

The active Feierlenhof farm is surrounded by orchards. The quiet location above Altnau is just as pleasing as the magnificent view of Lake Constance and the Vorarlberg mountains. On the family farm, which is run with heart and soul, you can experience everyday farming life at first hand. Whether on a guided tour of the farm, feeding cows and chickens, watering calves, caring for small animals or riding horses. Three holiday flats offer overnight accommodation. You can eat here under cherry trees, celebrate festivities or buy products fresh from the farm in the farm shop.

Cycling in the Sunny Corner

Cycling along Lake Constance is particularly beautiful. Various cycle routes lead through the rural idyll of the Lake Constance communities of Altnau, Güttingen, Kesswil, Uttwil and Münsterlingen. But an excursion up the Seerücken to Langrickenbach is also worthwhile. Especially in spring. During the Obstbaumbluescht, the region reveals itself in a white blossom dress. On the Mostindien-Tour you can follow the apple with a panoramic view from the Seerücken across the Thurgau. For a trip with the rascals, there's the family route. It combines cycling with the most beautiful family attractions along the shores of Lake Constance.

Rural family summer

In the agricultural region around Altnau, the countryside is still idyllic. If the family wants to experience where the milk or strawberries come from, this is the place to be. Numerous farm shops offer products directly from the farm. The active Feierlenhof farm offers a glimpse behind the scenes. At Maila you can look for the exit in Switzerland's largest maize maze. The Sunnehüsli has weather luck in its name and offers a playground under apple trees, encounters with donkeys, goats and more and the best homemade apple pie far and wide.

Theme trails - little stories of the region

In addition to the apple trail in Altnau, various other themed trails provide information on interesting facts about the region. Did you know that in times of need roasted acorns were used as a coffee substitute? Or that the Münsterlingen hospital is a former monastery? The Güttingen Oak Trail tells of the many uses of the noble oak. The Münsterlingen culture trail highlights the importance of the micro-region around the Münsterlingen hospital campus. You can nibble from a garden and compete with forest animals in the long jump on the Kesswil sea berry trail, and the Uttwil woodland trail leads through the shady lakeside forest on Lake Constance, ideally combined with a visit to the medicinal plant garden of the well-known Max Zeller AG.
