Welcome to Thurgau’s blossom wonderland
In spring, when nature bursts into new life, the Thurgau region by Lake Constance displays its most beautiful side. Thurgau is Switzerland’s biggest fruit-growing canton, with more than 210,000 majestic apple trees and over 1,600 hectares of fruit orchards. From April to May, when the blossoms on the fruit trees unfurl, large swathes of the landscape become a wonderland of blossom.
Madame Bluescht has the latest information
From mid-April, apple, cherry, and pear blossom settles on the landscape around Lake Constance, attracting bees and tourists in equal numbers. However, nature never sticks to an exact schedule. Not to worry: “Madame Bleuscht” at Thurgau Tourismus keeps a close eye on the fruit trees. Just call +41 71 531 01 30 to find out which trees are currently in blossom around Lake Constance in Switzerland. Callers will also be treated to insider tips about excursions and accommodation.
“Damsons come first, then the cherries, and then our crowning glory, the apple blossom.”
Highlights of the Thurgau apple blossom season
Not to be missed: a hike or cycle trip through the orchards – nature shows off her full glories to anyone in the right place at the right time. One of Madame Bluescht’s recommended cycle routes is the Bluescht-Velotour in the Arbon region; another is the Genuss-Velotour starting at Romanshorn. Other spring highlights could include the “Bluescht-Fäscht”, held in Altnau (the “apple village”) on May 1, or a night in the Thurgau Bubble hotel, beneath apple blossoms and a starry sky. Madame Bluescht will be happy to advise you personally; just call +41 71 531 01 30.
Apple walk with views of Lake Constance
Thurgau is Switzerland’s apple canton, and the village of Altnau on the southern bank of Lake Constance can claim the title of Switzerland’s apple village. Three different routes on the Altnauer Apfelweg (Apple Tray) offer fascinating facts about fruit farming. Young and old alike can follow the mascots Fredi, Lisi and Emma, play games at the 24 interactive stations, and pick up intriguing information about apples, pears & co. The Apfelweg path is family-friendly, short, and easy for walkers, pushchairs, or cyclists. There are rest areas along the routes, some with barbecue points, where you can pause for a picnic or a game. Read more

New: MoMö, the world of apples in Arbon
In autumn 2018, traditional juice maker Möhl in Arbon on Lake Constance opened the doors to the Swiss Juice Museum, established on its own premises. The Thurgau family of entrepreneurs has been processing apples into juice, must and apple wine since 1895. The new juice museum, the MoMö, pays homage to the traditional juice trade – in the Möhl juice factory and across the entire region. The museum illustrates the unique delights of the Möhl family and brings Thurgau’s apple and juice-making trade to life. Read more
