Pilgrimage chapel Heiligkreuz Bernrain

Pilgrimage chapel Heiligkreuz Bernrain
The Heiligkreuz chapel in the Bernrain district of Kreuzlingen is the first chapel on the Way of St. James, which leads from Constance to Einsiedeln. It is a popular place of pilgrimage and is also frequently used as a wedding church.
The Bernrain Chapel of the Holy Cross was built in 1388 as a pilgrimage church. Later, a chaplain from the parish of St. Stefan in Constance worked there until the Emmishof Catholics broke away from the mother parish in 1819. The Bernrain chapel then became the parish church until the new church of St. Stefan was consecrated in 1903. In Bernrain church there is a painting depicting the legend of the miraculous cross. According to this legend, a cheeky boy once made derogatory remarks about the Lord God, whereupon he could no longer remove his hand from the crucifix. Only when his mother and respectable people from the town promised a pilgrimage to Einsiedeln was the boy able to free himself.
