Thurgau School Museum Amriswil

Switzerland's first school museum is located in the former schoolhouse in Amriswil. Temporary exhibitions and the permanent exhibition – an original schoolroom from the 1920s – take visitors on a journey through Swiss school history over the last 100 years.

The school museum in Amriswil is a museum of school history – and it really comes alive here! An old schoolroom on the first floor from the 1920s awakens grandma's memories of her own school days or shows her grandson how learning was done back then. The schoolroom is true to the original and conveys the atmosphere of 1920, with Thurgau reading books from 1910 inviting visitors to browse through them, to feel nostalgic at the school desk and to rediscover old aids such as type boxes, pens, primers, slates and slide rules. For groups, this activity room with its equipment awakens countless memories from childhood or shows school classes how their grandparents went to school. Temporary exhibitions take up themes such as «Näschi» and handicrafts, and museum events provide insights into Swiss school history.
