Saurer Museum

The Saurer Museum shows the history of the formerly world-known company. Commercial vehicles of all generations can be admired, starting with the «Caminhao» from 1911, which was brought back in 2003 from Brazil and then got restored. The legendary «Car alpin», the ultimate mail van, a unique bus of the Zurich tram, military cars of all types and a huge engine exhibition show the pioneering spirit of that time.

In the section of textile machines weaving and embroidery machines can be viewed. The oldest one, a «Chlüpperlimaschine», was built back in 1860. The automatic embroidery machine S1 is controlled by a «mechanical computer» built in 1912 and stitches beautiful St. Gallen embroideries. All textile machines are working and can be shown in action by specialists against request. The Saurer Museum is solely run by volunteers. In the own repair shop vintage cars are cared, repaired and maintained. For this excellent voluntary work the Saurer Museum received in 2014 the EMYA Silletto price, a European top-class award.
