Local museum Amriswil
The local museum is dedicated to the history of Amriswil and the region with various permanent and temporary exhibitions. Admission to the museum is free of charge.
The museum was opened in 1988 on the initiative of four Amriswil residents in the former stables of the Protestant vicarage. What began with 120 exhibits is now an interesting journey through the history of Amriswil. Since its reopening in 2008 in the former factory halls of a textile company, hundreds of interested visitors come to the museum on the Palmensteg every year. The museum focuses on exhibits relating to industrial history, particularly the textile and shoe industries. Special attractions include the circular knitting machine, which was developed and built in Amriswil between 1920 and 1940, and the first Saurer weaving machine, which is still in operation today and was bought by the founder of the Amriswil-based company Cornella.
