Monastery church of St. Ulrich

Monastery church of St. Ulrich
A visit to the monastery church of St. Ulrich is worthwhile not only because of the rococo decorations and the choir screen by Jakob Hoffner, but also because of the Chapel of the Mount of Olives.
Kreuzlingen Abbey was founded in 1125 by Bishop Ulrich I of Constance outside the city walls of Constance as an Augustinian canonry. It was first destroyed by the people of Constance for aiding the enemy in the Swabian War in 1499 and again in 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. The Augustinian canons therefore re-established their convent "one cannon shot away" from the city walls of Constance, where the monastery church still stands today. After the abolition of the monastery in 1848, the teachers' seminary (now the Pädagogische Maturitätsschule) moved into the complex. After the major fire in 1963, the monastery complex of national importance was rebuilt thanks to a great deal of support.
