Monastery church of St. Remigius

Monastery church of St. Remigius
St. Remigius is the parish church of the former Benedictine convent in Münsterlingen, which is now home to the cantonal hospital. As a special feature, a bust of St. John can be seen, which is carried to the German town of Hagnau and back during the Seegfrörni.
According to legend, the monastery was founded by the daughter of the English King Edward I. The monastery church of St. Remigius is a remarkable example of Vorarlberg Baroque architecture and has a well-structured tower made of sandstone ashlars. The solemn procession with the wooden bust of St. John, which can be viewed at the entrance to the church, has a long tradition. Since 1573, it has been traveling across the lake to Hagnau in Germany and back - when the lake is frozen and the ice is thick enough. The last time it was moved to Münsterlingen was in 1963 and as it often takes over a hundred years for the lake to freeze over, the bust will probably be on display in St. Remigius for a long time to come.
