Historical paper machine PM1
PM1, the oldest paper machine in Switzerland, can be viewed in Bischofszell.
The PM1 era began in 1928. The dismantled paper machine and the material for the purpose-built hall were transported from Heidenheim in Germany to Bischofszell in 420 railroad cars. The delivery of the 18-ton Yankee dryer caused a veritable stampede.
The PM1, which is driven by leather belts via a complex transmission, is now the oldest paper machine in Switzerland. It was in service until 1991, when paper production in Bischofszell was discontinued.
